We're having a BOY!!!!!!!!!

I almost forgot about updating this blog since I took a couple weeks off! Boy was it great to be home with family and friends. It was a much needed vacation for Jake and I. Here's a little recap of our visit:

We had the most amazing baby shower ever! All of our friends and family were able to come and celebrate baby Lester with us. We played a few games, that even the men enjoyed. The first game was to put a piece of paper on top of your head and draw a baby. It was hilarious what some people had! Jake and I picked the winner of that, which was my brother Kyle. The next game was to guess how big around my belly was. Jake and my cousin Brittney were right on! There were some who guessed way too small or way too big. My brother in law, Mike, had guessed so big that the tape fit around Jake and I together with extra room!!! It was funny! And the last game we played was the guess the baby food. We had squash, pears and mac & cheese. My sister in law, Cate, was the only one to guess correctly all three. We also had plain white onesies, bibs and burp cloths that people painted and decorated. And as all of you know, Jake and I finally got to find out if we were having baby Jaxon or baby Evalyn. My sister Missy made the most awesome gender cake! When Jake and I cut into the cake I saw the most blue inside ever and screamed "It's a BOY!!!" and started crying! I yelled it out before everyone else could even see the inside. We were so incredibly happy to be welcoming baby Jaxon into our family!! My brother took a video of the cake cutting, I'll post it once he gets it off his camera. It really was my favorite day of vacation. There's nothing better than spending an evening with all your friends and family.

Jake and I also enjoyed some good ol' Kansas City food while we were home too. We ate at Jess and Jims a few times and had some Jackstack BBQ and Buffalo Wild Wings. Just thinking of it all makes me want some more.

Also while we were home I got to see my sweet nephew Grayson!! He has got to be the cutest little boy in the entire world. He's always so happy and lovey. I miss him more than anything. I had the hardest time saying goodbye to him.

The last weekend Jake and I were home we went to my brother and sister's lake cabin at the Ozarks. It was so much fun! Jake had such a blast wakeboarding, tubing, and going on the wave runner. He had been dying to go to the lake for the last few years, he wanted to stay there for so much longer than a couple days. I had to take it easy at the lake with little Jaxon, but I still got to enjoy boat rides, tubing and going on the wave runner. I can't wait to take little man to the lake when he's older. We owe Kyle and Missy a big thank you for letting us come and stay with them!

We were home for an extended period of time, but time went by way to fast. I wish we lived closer to home or you all could just move to San Diego! I'd be one very happy girl if that could happen.

As for Jaxon, we are 23 weeks along today. He is about 11 inches long from his head to his heels and weighs over a pound. The bones that form his middle ear are completely formed so he can hear mommy and daddy talk, read and sing to him. His blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare him for breathing. His face is almost fully formed and in one of our ultrasounds my sister gave me, we could tell he has daddy's lips, mommy's long fingers and long legs! He was so precious! From here on out little Jaxon doesn't have much fat on him at all but he'll be gaining about 6 ounces of weight every week until birth.
As for me, I've been gaining weight and have quite the big belly now. I also have been waking up in the middle of the night the last couple nights with leg cramps. I have heard that they were common during pregnancy, but I thought I lucked out and wouldn't be getting them. It's painful waking up with charlie horses in your calves and feet. I still have the biggest appetite in the world. I out-eat Jake during every meal, he is amazed every time. Baby Jaxon loves kicking and punching me during all hours of the day and night. It's the most amazing feeling in the world. He's kicking as I type this. There are times after I wake up I can see he slept on one side of my belly because my belly will be very lopsided. He's just so precious.

Since Jake and I have been back in San Diego we have bought almost everything else that Jax needs before his big arrival. We bought his nursery furniture, travel system, activity mat, activity bouncer, mattress, and other odds and ends. I can't wait until we move and we can set up his nursery. We are keeping everything in the boxes so it'll be easier to move when the time comes.

I'm sorry this post was so long, there was a lot to catch up on! I'll be updating on a weekly basis again. It was so great to see so many of you while we were home. Jake and I miss you all so much already and can't wait to see you again.

Halfway there, Little One!!

Is it me or has the first half of pregnancy flown by? It seems like not too long ago Jake and I found out we were pregnant. We've got a very busy second half of pregnancy ahead of us, so that should make time pass by quickly.

Wow, 20 weeks! Our precious little baby is now over 10 ounces and 6 and a half inches long! The first 20 weeks they measure baby's length from the top of his head to his rump because his legs are always curled up, but from here on out they measure baby's length from head to tippy toe. So measuring baby more accurately, from head to toe, he is about 10 inches long!!! No wonder I can feel him all the time! When you're at the grocery store go grab a large banana and that'll be about the size of baby this week. I've learned that this week baby has developed taste buds. Everything that I eat he or she can taste also, so they say to eat a wide variety of foods so after baby is born then they'll be more likely to try different foods because they will have already been exposed while in utero. Baby can taste all these foods by swallowing the amniotic fluid and as we know, with consumption comes waste. This little one is already working on his first dirty diaper for Daddy to change at the hospital. Meconium is accumulating slowly in his digestive tract and will arrive shortly after birth. Also this week I have began to notice some of baby's sleep/wake cycles. Our little one sleeps more than 14 hours a day, just like a newborn, but mommy loves when baby's awake and playing in her belly! And finally, baby's sense of hearing is becoming so in tune that if he hears a loud noise, he will cover his ears! Mommy's got a little genius in her belly!

Jake and I did a few of the different old wives tales last night to guess the sex of our baby. Here are the results:

Heart rate: Boy
Cravings: Could be either!  :)
Baking Soda Test: Girl
Chinese Gender Chart: Girl
Ring Test: Boy

So it's really up in the air as to what this little one is! I can't believe the ultrasound is only a few days away and then we all get to find out in 8 days!!!!

Jake was able to go with me to my Centering Pregnancy Group appointment on Wednesday. He thought it was a little strange at first, but towards the end I think he enjoyed it a little. We had a masseuse come and give us mini shoulder massages and then show us some exercises to help with back and hip pain. And the remainder of the time we talked about all the possible discomforts of pregnancy. Baby's heartbeat was in the high 130s-140 bpm and sounded very strong! And I'm 3 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight! My next group appointment is Sept 15.

And finally, here is my belly picture this week. I've never felt more comfortable in my own body than I do being pregnant!

We can't wait to see you all. We will drive extra extra safe on our way to Kansas City, we've got precious cargo on board, and I'm not talking about Lucy!  ;)  I will update the blog when we return home from our trip! We love you all so much!

Love,
Mommy, Daddy and Baby Lester
